I have a necklace that has earned something of sentimental value for me. Unfortunately, it is not real and is beginning to blur. I was thinking of having it gold plated. Does anyone know anything about this, what is the process, how much it would cost nothing ..?
The gold coating (or gold plating) process is very simple and takes 30 to 60 seconds. When gold is applied to a copper rich surface such as brass, bronze or beryllium copper, the metal ions such base metals will diffuse into the gold layer and degrade its hardness. Any shop with proper equipment should do for you. It's hard to say what the cost would be without knowing how long is the necklace, but should not be more than 50 USD
